Consultation and Coaching Services
The Connecticut Writing Project offers the following consultative services to school systems across the state.
- Needs assessment: the evaluation of a school system's current practice and goals regarding writing. This is done through surveys, an examination of curriculum, interviews with teachers and administrators and classroom observations.
- Help systems relate curricular goals to current research about writing.
- Help systems to address the CMT and CAPT tests in light of current research about writing.
- Participate in grant writing and proposals for writing programs.
- Develop school or system-specific inservice programs to address instructional needs in writing.
- Provide Writers-in-Residence for short or long term projects.
In-Service Programs
- Each series is tailored to the needs of the participants.
- Each workshop features a Teacher/Consultant to facilitate the workshop and explore an aspect of the writing process within the context of current research and practice.
- Because participants have the opportunity to write in each session, they are able to improve their own writing as they improve their ability to instruct their students in composition.
- Workshops may be scheduled after school, during school hours, or in the summer months.
- Follow-up sessions are available.
